It was mid-afternoon, Sunday August 16 2015 when the inaugural Research Junior Football Club Under-12 Girls team proudly held the NFL premiership cup high, but to get to this point, let’s step back in time.

After an extensive recruitment program over summer, a small band of girls began training on the beautiful playing fields of Eltham’s Catholic Ladies College, alongside the Under-13 boys, who had won their premiership six months earlier.

The boys assisted the girls with their training drills, constantly encouraged, and enjoyed their company. A committed and experienced group of coaches also ensured the girls enjoyed themselves each night which, in turn, saw them tell their friends.

The 2015 premiership flag now hangs proudly in the Research clubrooms, which in 2016 will undergo outstanding renovations thanks to a handsome Government grant and extensive Club fundraising.

On the back of the girls success accolades were forthcoming with the presentation of a Federal Award for Outstanding Achievement and Contribution to Community Sport in Jaga Jaga, and a comprehensive congratulatory message tabled in State Parliament from Vi
