The Fitzroy Stars Football Club have announced that Christian Gaylard will be the Senior coach for the 2010 season.

Gaylard comes to the club with a coaching background including two seasons as senior coach of the Keilor Park Football Club in 2006 and 2007, after stints as playing coach of the Braybrook Football Club from 2000 to 2001 and 2004 to 2006. He was also Assistant Coach of Aberfeldie Football Club iin 2008. Gaylard's playing career includes two seasons with the Williamstown Football Club in the VFL/VFA in 1996 and 1997.

Fitzroy Stars' President, Troy Austin, said there was more than just football behind Gaylard's appointment, with his benefit off the field also being a factor.

"Christian is not only a strong football person, but has an extensive background in supporting indigenous youth in their workplace endeavours," said Austin.

"The Club believes this is an added bonus for us because of our mission, including assisting our players with their employment and education." 

Gaylard will be supported by playing assistant coach, Brad Nordhausen, who will also play a key position on the field. Nordhausen comes to the Stars after playing careers at Aberfeldie and Keilor Park, where he was the leading goalkicker at both clubs. Nordhausen also played in country South Australia, where he was a two-time century goalkicker with the Clare Football Club (147 goals and 116 goals) and was also the leading goalkicker in the Northern Territory Football League in 2004/05 with the Wanderers FC. Nordhausen has also played in the SANFL with Woodville-West Torrens FC and Central Districts FC.

The Stars can also announce that former Senior coach, Alan Brown, has been appointed as Reserves Coach for the 2010 season. Brown is well known to the club and the NFL from the past two seasons and the Stars are extremely pleased that he has agreed to play a key role developing their up-and-coming players.

Fitzroy Stars' pre-season training is being held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Sir Bill Nicholls Reserve (St George's Rd, next to tram terminal) beginning at 5.30pm each night
